You'll travel straight through the Laotian countryside past villages, temples and farmland. The well paved road will turn into sandy roads as you near the overgrown Boloven Plateau. The resort that you'll be staying at is hidden amidst dense rainforest across from 2 foaming waterfalls. The water from the falls plunges 200m down into a gorge; an amazing sight. You can enjoy the green surroundings from the comfort of your veranda or while on a trek through the wilderness. |

Day 2: Boloven plateauThe Boloven Plateau, located in Southern Laos, lies at an altitude of approximately 1200m. Because of its altitude the climate on the plateau is pleasantly cool, even in the summer. During the months July and August you can expect an occassional rainshower that will help to refresh the area and give it a wonderfully green hue. The villages on the plateau can only be accessed by sand trails. The remote location of these villages is one of the reasons why they have remained so authentic and unspoiled by outside influences. Quite a few minorities live in this area, for instance the Laven, Katu and the Alak. The people that live in this area are known for their hand-woven textiles and facial tattoos, both are heavily influenced by the Khmer.During your Boloven Plateau trek you'll stay at an eco-lodge in the heart of the Dong Hua Sao natural reserve. The resort organises guided hikes through this territory of numerous waterfalls and lush vegetation. |
Day 3: Boloven plateau - Pakse (end of module)
After a tasty breakfast in the morning, this Boloven Plateau trek module will end. Ask the reception desk staff to arrange a taxi ride for you back to Pakse. From Pakse you can travel to Vientiane either by night bus or plane or you can travel to Luang Prabang for the rest of your Laos itinerary. If you would like to travel to Thailand, you can take a bus from Pakse to Ubon Ratchathani and then board the night train to Bangkok. Click here for a summary of our Thailand travel modules. We can arrange transportation between each module to each new destination for you.
